Dancing in Ethiopia

Cultural Exchange Dance Project between Wales and Ethiopia.

I have been invited to work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to collaborate with Addisu Demissie a dancer and choreographer with Adugna Community Dance Theatre Company for 6 weeks in January 2012. We want to create and perform a duet around the idea of cultural identity with Composer Jered Sorkin. And two film makers one from Ethiopia and one from the Uk to create a film which will be integrated into the creation. We then want to bring the piece to the UK to perform it in June 2012. We are currently looking for funding to make this project happen, please get in touch if you can help with this.

Project Aims:

To create a positive awareness of each country’s way of life and culture, and to be ambassadors for their country’s identity. To use dance as a worldwide language where people do not need words to express their beliefs and experiences.  And to send out information without distraction and misunderstanding about what is happening in the rest of the world. We will be promoting the art form of contemporary dance, especially in Ethiopia where the style has not been as widely recognised as it should have been.
